Yes! If you want to fly a drone commercially in Australia, you need a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and you need to operate under a ReOC (Remote Operators Certificate), whether that is your own ReOC or your employers. Recreational pilots flying in the excluded category (sub 2kg) may not need one in most cases, but they still have to follow CASA’s rules and regulations. That being said, I have seen many cases (especially recently) of excluded category pilots getting their RePLs for insurance purposes and to keep themselves on top of the game for securing jobs where licensed pilots are prioritised.

Flying commercially opens up a career path and you can make money off your flights! Drones are used for everything from agriculture and surveying to shark patrols, wildlife monitoring, and even volunteer search and rescue.

Not unless you hold a Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC) with the correct approvals or are flying under someone else’s ReOC with the correct approvals and endorsements.

Study properly. Don’t memorise practice questions, the exam wording can be different, so you need to really understand the content. If you spend the time to study and understand what you are learning, this is really the only way to be sure to pass. And ask questions in your training!
