Medium Category Type Ratings and Training

Type Ratings and Training can be booked for any of the RPA listed below. We offer Type Ratings alongside our RePL courses at the locations and dates listed in that section. If these options do not meet your needs, please get in touch with our sales team to discuss alternative options.

Type Rating Only

To complete the Type Rating alone, you must demonstrate thorough knowledge of the specific RPA, including:

• Specifications (e.g., endurance, battery capacities, weights, sensors)

• General RPA knowledge

• Flight proficiency through a series of flight sequences including an automated mission in line with the RPA's use case

Additionally, you will need to perform a comprehensive pre-flight check of the aircraft. During the Type Rating assessment, your assessor cannot assist you. It is important to note that booking a Type Rating is not a guaranteed pass.

Training Type Rating

This combined option ensures you are well-prepared for your Type Rating test.

Online Knowledge Check

The training begins with an E Learning and online knowledge check performed pre-course to help you:

• Understand the key components of the specific RPA

• Review general rules and concepts related to the Medium Category

Practical Training

The practical portion solidifies your understanding of the aircraft and builds your operational skills. This includes:

• Practising several flight sequences

• Setting automated flights

• Operating specific payloads and components of the RPA

Once the instructor is confident in your abilities, you will proceed to the Type Rating test.

The Type Rating Test

During the assessment, you will:

• Answer questions specific to the aircraft

• Demonstrate the practical skills acquired during training

The instructor cannot assist or coach you during the assessment. For this reason, we strongly recommend booking the combined Training and Type Rating option, rather than attempting the Type Rating alone.

We continuously update our training and type rating packages with the latest aircraft as they arrive in Australia. Additionally, we can customise packages for other Medium Category aircraft and provide full assistance in integrating them into your operations.

If you have zero flight experience - regardless of the category or size of unmanned aircraft - we can guide you through every step. This begins with obtaining your initial Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) in the sub-25kg category, a requirement for Medium Category operations. From there, we can seamlessly transition you into your Medium Category training, often within the same week if needed.
