This course is designed for holders of an existing Multi Rotor Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) who seek to extend their operational privileges to include powered-lift remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
Powered-lift RPA combine characteristics of both fixed-wing and multi rotor aircraft, using powered lift for take-off and landing and aerodynamic lift during forward flight. This gives the Powered Lift RPA the advantage of being able to take off and land in a smaller space than a traditional fixed-wing RPA, while still maintaining the extended endurance of the fixed wing.
The course is conducted over 2 days:
Day 1 consists of instructor led learning, followed by an exam. This covers Unit 12 of the Manual of Standards -RBKP - Aircraft knowledge and principles: Powered-lift. Topics covered build on the concepts from your RePL with a mixture of review and new information, and how this relates to the 2 phases of Powered Lift flight - vertical and forward flight.
Following the learning, you are required to complete an exam on the topics covered. To finish off Day 1, we will go through pre-flight checks of the RPA we will be using for the practical flight. Flight planning will also be covered with the aid of simulation software, giving you an introduction to ArduPilot and Mission Planner, as well as manufacturer software.
Day 2 will be our practical day. You will experience hand flying the Powered Lift RPA to prepare you for your flight test at the end of the course. Throughout, you will also gain insights in working with other crew to safely complete a flight with elements of manual and automatic flying.
