As the drone industry continues to adopt larger aircraft, advanced sensors and specialist payloads, operators with the skills to fly multirotor RPA up to 25kg can access a wider range of commercial applications. These include surveying, mapping, infrastructure inspection, emergency services, environmental monitoring, construction and specialist aerial data collection.
Rather than completing your initial RePL and returning later for an upgrade, this package allows you to progress directly from your foundation training into your Sub-25kg Multirotor RePL Upgrade.
Your Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) theory training is delivered through live instructor-led Microsoft Teams sessions held over two consecutive days, supported by comprehensive self-paced online learning.
Your learner portal provides access to course materials, presentations and knowledge checks, allowing you to reinforce your knowledge and prepare for your CASA RePL theory assessment.
The CASA RePL knowledge areas covered include:
Your learner portal also includes the required AROC and Sub-25kg Multirotor learning materials and knowledge checks, keeping your training together in one location.
Once you have completed the required theory components, you can attend practical training at one of our drone training locations across Australia.
At your practical course, you will complete the required theory assessments before progressing to hands-on multirotor flight training.
Pilots commencing with no previous flight experience will complete the required practical flight training to develop competency across normal flight manoeuvres, aircraft management, flight planning and emergency procedures. Pilots who already have relevant flying experience may progress more quickly once they demonstrate the required standard of competency.
Your practical training concludes with an assessment of your ability to safely plan and operate a multirotor RPA.
Following your foundation RePL training, you will progress to your Sub-25kg Multirotor Upgrade.
This training introduces the additional considerations involved in operating larger and heavier multirotor RPA, including aircraft familiarisation, weight and performance, payload considerations, flight planning, risk management and practical aircraft handling.
You will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with a larger RPA and practise the required flight manoeuvres before being assessed by your instructor.
Completing the Sub-25kg upgrade expands your multirotor capabilities beyond the sub-7kg limitation, providing a pathway to operating larger commercial RPA and more capable payloads.
Your AROC training is also included in the package.
The online learning covers aviation radio procedures, frequencies, phraseology and practical communication skills relevant to professional remote pilots. Knowledge checks and practical exercises prepare you for your AROC assessment as part of your training pathway.
Holding an AROC is particularly valuable for remote pilots progressing into operations where communication with other aviation participants is required.
Completing your RePL and Sub-25kg Multirotor Upgrade as one package provides a more efficient pathway into professional drone operations.
Instead of qualifying with a sub-7kg RePL and returning later to complete additional training, you can develop experience on larger RPA as part of your initial training pathway.
This can be particularly valuable for pilots planning to work in industries such as agriculture, surveying, mapping, construction, infrastructure inspection, emergency services and environmental monitoring, where larger aircraft and specialist payloads are increasingly used.
A popular option is to pair this with our NVLOS Night Operations course or add a Medium Category Type Rating on one of the many Medium Category RPA's Uncrewed Aviation Australia can assess you on.
The RePL Sub-25kg Multirotor Upgrade Course is available at advertised Uncrewed Aviation Australia Remote Pilot Licence – Foundation course locations and dates across Australia. This RePL and Sub-25kg Multirotor Drone Course is designed for anyone looking to start or advance a career as a commercial drone pilot in Australia. It is ideal for new entrants to the drone industry, professionals adding RPA capability to their existing role, and operators working in industries such as surveying, mapping, construction, infrastructure inspection, agriculture, emergency services and environmental monitoring where larger aircraft and specialist payloads may be required.
The course is also suited to individuals who want a more complete pathway from their initial CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) to operating larger multirotor RPA. By combining the RePL, AROC and Sub-25kg Multirotor Upgrade into one package, pilots can develop the aviation knowledge, radio skills and practical flying competency needed to pursue a broader range of professional and commercial drone operations across Australia.
